A Day Of Firsts

The next day was a day of firsts for Pebbles. When I went out to feed that morning the boys came in as normal and went right in to their stalls. Pebbles followed their lead and came in to her section of the barn to wait for breakfast just as if she had been doing it all of her life. I have no idea if she has ever had a stall before and so I made no attempt to close her in. The barn is set up such that she has a run in section to get out of the weather and if I choose to I can leave the door to her stall open so that she can go in and use that as well. I put hay and water in her buckets and let her decide if she wanted to go in. Other than that I decided to carry on with normal barn activities and just let her take it all in. This meant the tractor came in to the barn for cleaning, hoses were dragged around, barn cats were doing their normal wall climbing, and the dog was convinced she needed to be in Pebbles space. She took it all in stride and went out to eat grass when the boys went out to their hay feeder. Sometime over night Blue decide he was no longer in love but that he had make it clear that she was not welcome at their feeder. Silly pony kept charging the fence and she ignored him as if he wasn't even there. Journey on the other hand followed her down the fenceline making a point of being as close as he could get. Her reaction to this was pretty much the same as her reaction to Blue, lol. Ignore, ignore, and eat!

When it was time for the evening feeding the boys came galloping in and so did Pebbles! This enthusiasm as well as her calmness encouraged me to have her eat in her stall. To get her in I walked her bucket in and set it down at the back and then when she came in I walked out and closed the door. She wasn't bothered in the slightest but Blue felt certain that she should be more impressed by his antics. When I let her back out she chose to stay close to Taylor and I and eat hay under the barn roof. All in all I was very pleased. Not bad for 24 hours!
